Botox is a medicine that works by relaxing muscles and thereby reduces or eliminates wrinkles. At De Gezichtskliniek we work with the brand Bocouture® by Merz for our botox treatments.

Botox is a muscle relaxant primarily used for wrinkle reduction. Botox is most commonly used to treat dynamic wrinkles—those caused by facial muscle movement including the frown, forehead and crows feet but also in the jaw for a slimming effect or for medical reasons such as migraines or excessive sweating.  You may find that aside from the aesthetic benefits the treated area will feel lighter.

Botox works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to the muscles it’s injected into. This causes the muscles to relax, which helps to smooth out wrinkles or treat other muscle-related conditions. The effects are temporary lasting from 3-4 months because the body eventually absorbs the Botox, and the muscle regains its function over time.

Our highly-trained doctors perform over 10,000 botox treatments each year.  Additionally we work with a unique protocol to ensure every patients receives a tailored treatment to achieve optimal results while significantly reducing any risks.

Here is a breakdown of what you can expect during and after a Botox treatment:

1. Consultation

The first step is a consultation with your doctor where you can discuss the areas you would like treatmented and see if you are a good candidate.  Your doctor will create a treatment plan with a dose.  If it is your first time usually your doctor will advise a dose on the lower side to avoid complications with overtreatment.  If the result of that dose is too low you can come back within 2 weeks for a top up.

2. Treatment Preparation

The area being treated is cleaned, and while Botox injections don’t usually require numbing cream, you can request it to minimize any minor discomfort.

3. Injection of Botox

Botox is injected directly into the targeted muscle areas using a fine needle. The number of injections will vary depending on the size and number of areas being treated. You might feel a small pinch or sting with each injection, but the discomfort is generally brief.

4. Immediate Effects

You can return to your normal activities right after the treatment, as there’s no downtime. However, you may experience some redness or slight swelling at the injection sites, which is usually temporary. The results aren’t immediate—Botox starts working within a few days, with full results often visible after 2 weeks. It temporarily relaxes the treated muscles, which softens or eliminates the appearance of wrinkles or fine lines.

5. Post-Treatment Care

In most cases, you can continue your normal daily activities immediately after the treatment.

After Botox, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Don’t lie down or bend over excessively for about 4 hours after the treatment.

  • Avoid massaging or rubbing the treated area, as this could cause the Botox to spread to unintended muscles.

  • You should also avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and excessive heat for the first 24-48 hours.

6. Follow-Up

The end result will be visible after 2 weeks.  We offer a top up at a reduced rate from 2-4 weeks if you feel more is needed for the result you would like. This can range from €10- €60 per zone depending on how much is needed. Typically, Botox results last for about 3-4 months. Over time, the muscle activity will gradually return, and you may notice the wrinkles or lines reappearing.  In the case your result does not last 3 months a higher dose will be recommended in your next treatment.

Botox FAQ

How does botox work?
The amount of botox needed in a certain area of the face varies per person. This depends on age, depth of wrinkles and muscle strength. You can also want a more natural look with some movement or you can go for the frozen look where there is no more movement. Wrinkles that are in the face at rest will decrease a little bit, but certainly with deeper wrinkles, these will not disappear completely with a treatment. If after 2 weeks a little more botox is needed, you can always come by for a top-up for a small fee.

Is Botox treatment painful?
The botox treatment uses a very small needle, which means that the injections are generally not experienced as very painful. If you want to be assured of being completely pain-free during the treatment, we can always use an anesthetic cream.

When can I expect the results?
You will not see any results immediately after the treatment. After a few days you will start to notice that there is less movement in the treated area. After 1 week after the treatment you will see much more results and after 2 weeks you will see the final result.

How long will the results last?
How long the botox treatment continues to work varies from person to person. The average period is 3 to 4 months. With repeated treatments in succession, you can expect a prolonged result.

Is there any swelling or bruising?
It is not common for swelling or bruising to occur with Botox treatment. Often, there are no visible signs that you have been treated immediately after treatment.

What products are used?
At De Gezichtkliniek we have all A brands in stock. Our prices are based on the brand Bocouture®.

What is the price of Botox?
Our prices are for standard dosage. Men and people with strong muscles often need a higher dosage, namely prices per unit. The doctor will discuss this with you during your appointment. If you notice that a higher dosage is needed from 2-4 weeks, we offer that for a small fee.
